Bird Watching Guide - Cedar Bird Feeders
We all have a soft spot for birds. This means that we try and ensure that their environment is ideal for their needs. A bird house is a good way to provide an instant nesting site or home for any visiting birds. A bird bath placed near a bird feeder provides a source of water for drinking, splash bathing and just having fun. The many types of feeders make sure that there is a ready supply of food for the birds. However Cedar Bird Feeders go beyond being just a bird supply item. They bring a level of sophisticated beauty to the garden.
Cedar Bird Feeders from Woodlink will give you the rustic look that you desire and yet this is combined with a practical usage. These feeders can be used anywhere it’s necessary to feed large amounts of birds. They’re also good for bird feeding sanctuaries.
Keeping this large sized feeder in your garden is an invitation for lots of birds to dine there. The Cedar Bird feeders are in the classic Hopper feeder style. Both sides of the feeder have lots of perching space in front of the feeding stations and there are clear plastic panels on both sides that show you the reservoir of seeds inside of the feeder.
Cedar Bird Feeders
An internal seed baffle design makes sure that any empty seed shells are emptied out on to the platform below. This design feature ensures that no residue is left in the Cedar bird feeders. The feeding platforms are green metal screens that can be removed. For the ease of cleaning and easy refilling the roof of the Cedar bird feeders are hinged.
These large Cedar bird feeders can hold 18 quarts of seed in them. This means that you don’t have to continually refill the feeder and if you need to go on your holiday you won’t be worrying about hungry birds.
Many bird species like to use this type of feeder. These include Wrens, Towhees, Sparrows, Jays, Grosbeaks, Blackbirds, Cardinals, Doves, Flickers, Redpolls, Woodpeckers, Titmice, Kinglets, Bluebirds, Goldfinches, Starlings, Finches, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Grackles, Siskins, Mockingbirds and Juncos.
Cedar Bird Feeders
These huge Cedar bird feeders are made in America from kiln dried Inland Red Cedar. They are hardy and durable. Their appearance will complement not only your garden but also any bird sanctuaries where they are needed. Due to the size of this feeder it may be best to pole mount it.
The best types of seed to use in this feeder are sunflower seeds, mixed seeds, cracked corn, sunflower kernels, safflower seeds and peanut chunks. The use of these varied bird seeds will bring different bird types to your Cedar Bird Feeders.
With the purchase of any Cedar Bird Feeders you can be assured of getting a good value and there are many years of enjoyment to be had from watching birds eating from the bird feeders.

How to stain rough sawn cedar bird feeder.?
I made a bird feeder from rough sawn cedar. I don’t think the birds would mind a few flaws, but I would like it to look nice from the kitchen nook.
Any suggestions on how to apply the stain. I don’t have a sprayer. I intend to finish it with exterior spar urethane. Since it is rough sawn, can you skip sanding between coats?
use a brush no sanding needed buy the spray shellac it will be easier to apply
Do birds not like yellow bird feeders?
I have lots of bird feeders in a special area of my backyard. A few days ago, I bought two new ones. One is made of cedar, so it’s natural color, and the other one is yellow (plastic). It’s a large lantern type, with a large platform so that birds can stand there and eat comfortably. But it’s like the yellow one does not exist! I have left all the other ones empty to “force” them to eat from the yellow one, and they still visit the empty ones but not the yellow one!
What could be the problem?
I’m thinking I’m going to spray paint it red or green!
How do I get the Cedar Waxwings to come to my bird feeder?
I see them all the time by our pond which is about 120′ from our feeder but they never seem to come up to the deck.
Cedar waxwings eat a large variety of fruits, berries, and insects and will not likely be attracted to seed feeders. If you are seeing the cedar waxwings around your pond, they are likely feeding on the insects that live near there. There are meal worm and fruit feeders available at specialty stores (Wild Birds Unlimited, Wild Birds Forever), or you can landscape closer to your house to offer berries/fruits that may attract the birds. Plants such as viburnum (berries) and persimmon (fruit tree) will attract the birds when the fruits are in season. A flock of cedar waxwings can strip a mature persimmon tree of fruit in a few hours.
Different species of birds have different feeding habits. If you want to create a feeding area for the waxwings, set the feeders up at least 10 ft away from your seed feeder.
That is a cedar waxwing. I love those birds.
They are almost exclusively fruit eaters, so you probably WON’T see them eating from your feeders unless you put berries out there.
You know, this is really weird, but yellow does freak out many birds. At our aviary, we have to be careful about anything that is this color. Even my birds at home don’t like the color yellow. And I have had the same trouble with yellow bird feeders. Not all birds are freaked at it, but a lot of them. It’s a question that I’m gonna ask my professor tomorrow when I go to school. (Bird behavior and psychology) If you paint it, be sure to use a non toxic paint. There is a paint for plastic that is non toxic, you can get it at hardware stores. Please read my profile
How can I prevent my cat from climbing up my bird feeder?
My bird feeder is on a 10 cedar post. It is having a house on it’s top that holds back the snow and the rain. Today, I saw my cat lying in it on top of my bird seeds. Now, what can I do so she won’t climp up there again? Thanks.
10 feet post. Sorry I forgot that info.
Funny. It’s an outdoor feeder. What people come up with. Geeze.
Go to a feed store & get a squirrel guard for the post. Explain the problem & they will be able to help you. You can also spray the post with one of those sprays that keep cats away. Of course the easiest way to solve this is to keep the cat indoors..
