Bird Watching Guide - Audubon Bird Feeders
Bird watching is an enjoyable hobby for many of us. We love the antics of the different birds as they try to get the best and largest amount of food. The bright colors and different species that come to our gardens are also a source of interest. One of the best ways to attract birds to your garden is with a feeder. As there are different aspects to the feeders, you might want to check out Audubon bird feeders just to get an idea of what you can buy.
There are different bird feeders that will suit the eating habits of your garden visitors. Ground feeders are best for birds like Doves, Goldfinches, Cardinals, Juncos, Towhees and Sparrows. These Audubon bird feeders need to kept in open areas, at least 10 feet away from any trees and shrubs. This way the birds will have a good chance of escaping from any incoming danger. The feeder is designed in a way that keeps the seeds fresh by separating the bird droppings from the seeds. Sometimes the ground feeders will have covers over them.
Sunflower seed tube feeders are good as they come with metal ports around the seed dispensers. These metal ports will stop hungry squirrels and house sparrows from raiding your bird feeders. It’s best to position this type of feeder about 5 feet off of the ground. To see more bird varieties coming for some food, you may want to hang your feeder near the windows. Audubon bird feeders like these attract Chickadees, Nuthatches, Siskins, House Finches, Goldfinches, Titmice and Purple Finches as well
Bird Feeders Poles
Another type of bird feeder that you should look into is the Suet feeder. Titmice, Chickadees, Nuthatches and Woodpeckers love to eat suet. Wrens and other birds will also sometimes eat the suet cake. You can feed suet by placing it in a mesh onion bag, or your other option is to buy Audubon bird feeders that are specially designed for feeding suet cakes to the different birds.
You can hang your suet feeder from trees or on a wire that’s stretched out between trees. You can also place it near other feeder poles and watch different birds eating both the seeds and the suet cakes. Since the suet can turn rancid you should avoid giving this feed when the outside temperatures rise into the 80 degree range.
Hopper feeders will let larger birds like Jays, Grackles, Red-Winged Blackbirds and Cardinals enjoy the mixed bird seed. You will find that these types of Audubon bird feeders have the smaller bird types coming to eat as well. The feed is released as the birds sit on the feeder trigger.
Bird Feeders Poles
With so many birds around you should think carefully what type of birds that you want coming to your garden and buy your feeder accordingly. The Audubon bird feeders will allow you a greater choice in feeders and will also give you the opportunity to see lots of interesting birds in the relative quiet of your home.

Advice on a butterfly and bird garden?
I have a raised bed, octagon shaped planterbox. It’s maybe 6 inches tall. The diameter (roughly) is 7 feet. I’d like to put in a birdbath and some bird feeders on poles or sheperds hooks. This would all be waist or eye level. I’d like to also do a butterfly garden for the lower level stuff. Any advice on what to plant to attact birds and butterflies and let them coexist? The spot gets morning through mid afternoon full sun. Probably 6 good hours uninterrupted. I live in MN. Thanks!
do Slinky’s really work on bird feeders to keep the squirrels off of them?
someone had told me to put a slinky on the pole that my bird feeder sits on and the squirrels can’t get up there.
How do I keep squirrels from getting into my bird feeders?
Hey people, I need help.We have a rod iron pole to hang bird feeders on and the squirrels keep getting into them. Do you know any ways to stop this?
My father uses valalene. they cannot climb it, they slide off it and cannot figure out how to work it. It doesn’t wash off and they don’t like the grease on their fir or paws. He hasn’t had a problem since….even on the string to attach them to the tree! It is inexpensive and worth a shot.
Good luck
I personally have a squirrel proof feeder. Squirrels get on it they are too heavy and it closes. Anywhere they are on it.
My mum has the kind of poles yer describing for yer bird feeders. She got these black metal cone shaped things that hand underneath and above the feeder so squirrels can’t jump up or down to the feeder.
However as no bird feeder is entirely squirrel proof.. there does tend to be one or two acrobatic squirrel that manages to get up there. Not many though.
I’d give you a link but I don’t know what they’re called to search Google for.
I have ninja squirrels in my yard any tips on how to keep them away from the bird feeders?
I have tried squirrel proof feeders, the feeder poles but the darn squirrels keep getting the bird feeders HELP!!!!!
Go online and look up a “no no” bird feeder. It is the only thing I can use to keep the squirrels from consuming a whole feeder of seed in a day. They can get on the feeder and get a few seeds but nothing like before
Help, my bird feeders have been taken over by squirrels. How can I keep them out?
One feeder is standing on a pole and up they climb to get to the feeder. Have already tried WD-40 and vaseline on the pole. Didn’t work. The other one is hanging from a branch in a tree and they climb the tree, walk on the branch and down the feeder to eat. Bird seed is costly and they are driving me nuts.
Thanks in advance.
put red pepper into the bird feeder onto the seed
the birds actually like the pepper taste and the squirrels hate it.
there is a product called squirrel-off….. all it is – red peppers crushed.
don’t get it in your eyes.
