The National Geographic Birdfeeders Offer Great Variety To The Backyard Bird Watcher

Author: Cloe Collars

The nice thing about National Geographic birdfeeders is that you can be assured that they come with great provenance. Sure, you can walk into any local pet store and find bird feeders of all sorts. But do they work well--have they been vetted--that is the question.

With National Geographic birdfeeders the variety is wonderful and the workmanship well worth the shipping cost, which one must consider when ordering off the internet. For instance, you can find feeders with a sturdy wire cage around them so that little birds can hide inside and not be bothered by larger, shall we say obnoxious, visitors?!

Backyard Bird Feeder Feeding Wild Birds

The website http://shop.nationalgeographic.com also has a variety of other National Geographic birdfeeders for those who are concerned about needing weatherproof or squirrelproof feeders. There is no need to have your precious seeds go moldy. You don't go to the trouble and expense of buying quality seed just to have rain get in and start sprouting seeds! It's not a seed sprouter you're interested in -- it's supposed to be a dry seed feeder!

And as for our four-legged squirrel ‘friends', yes, they were created with the same inalienable rights as birds by the Creator. The proviso is: NIMBY! You can even find squirrel feeders on the website, but even better, you can find National Geographic birdfeeders that are squirrel PROOF.

If you've fed birds for any length of time, you know how much a squirrel loves sunflower oil seed. After all, they are smart critters. But we are not interested in feeding squirrels high quality seed. We might provide some corn and make them do tricks for it for our entertainment, but not for sunflower seeds! There is a fine squirrel-proof example among the National Geographic birdfeeders on the site.

Backyard Bird Feeder Feeding Wild Birds

Also offered among the National Geographic birdfeeders is a unique hummingbird feeder mobile! It has three glass balls that can be filled with red sugar water. The balls turn around each other in the wind and with the attentions of the hummingbirds. Give it a look. It's a delicate and enchanting piece of sculpture in motion.

Ok i took a small bird home, im pretty sure its gonna die based on what ive read on the internet, any suggest?
Ok first off i KNOW i made a mistake, but hindsight is 20/20 right? I live in the desert, and near school in the street i found a small wild bird, its defenitely a fledgeling. When i found it yesterday afternoon it wasnt moving but now it seems better. Everywebsite says, “leave the bird there, it was learning to fly and the parents were around to feed it for a few days until it took off” Ok so i should have put it in a nearby tree or something, but i didnt, so now what?I have been keeping it warm and dry, and feeding it occasionally with a medecine dropper. I have been feeding it sugar water or fruit punch mixed with corn meal (yes i know fruit punch probably isnt what it normally eats.) Its moving around very well now, and I am considering putting it in the backyard as we have several bird feeders w/50 or more wild birds flying around so he/she can learn to fly.1) will the other birds feed it? 2) Is it too late to take it back where i got it?3)any suggestions? No i dont want to keep it
Thanks for the help so far all, I took it to the local petstore and the didnt want anything to do with it, i will try to find some type of bird orginization on monday as it is now the weekend. The bird is looking much healthier now and I am still feeding it sugar water mixed with cornmeal. It actually recognizes the medecine dropper now, which is good and bad i guess. It eats alot but i dont want it to become dependant as i am not going to keep it for long. It opens its mouth wide when it sees me with the dropper, and after one dropper full it usually doesnt want any more (full?) I put it outside for a few hours at a time near the other birds and some of the birds are the same species as it. They seem to only eat seeds so i think im ok w/o nightcrawlers as all birds do not eat bugs. so if it makes it thru the weekend I will bring it to a bird shelter of some sort. I have seen several people suggest milk, but isnt it only mammals (and bacteria) who have enzymes for digesting lactose?
Thank you everyone for your help. The bird died this morning (big suprise) and oddly i was very sad, probably because i was directly responsible. anyways 90 percent of the answers were right on, but the stock answer to almost any health related question is “go see a professional” so well pick one that went further, thanks again all.

What would you feed a wild rabbit?
We had a couple of feet of snow this week — This morning I saw a couple of wild rabbits around the bird feeder in the backyard eating dropped seeds — I was just wondering — What would be some good types of food to throw outside for them to eat ? Thanks

    Injured squirrel, anyone help?
Today I went outside to chase away the cats in my backyard. We feed the wild birds from a bird feeder and the squirrels that live in our backyard try to get some of the food too. I stumbled upon a cat trying to get a helpless squirrel. The squirrel is breathing, has no external cuts except on tiny one by the ear, and can move a little. I picked him up with a shovel very gently due to the fact I did not want him to bite me. He tried to run but made it only a few steps and fell. Im pretty sure his back paws are severely hurt. He is not full grown, I can tell by his size. I have him in a kennel with newspaper and a couple leaves and some bird food(I know he will eat that because that’s what got him in this the first place) I need to know what to do about his paws and any medical tips. I know the best thing to do is to call wildlife specialists, but trust me the ones where I live do NOT care. I will not free him because i’m pretty sure he is not dying and the cats have been looking for him and I cannot stand the thought of him being eaten to death. Your help is greatly appreciated by me and Chip(the squirrel)

Use platform feeders for most wildbirds, for example, cardinals, blue jays, chickadees, and bluebirds. Make sure the platform feeder is stable and has areas so the birds can perch. Wood (birch, redwood, pine, cedar) platform feeders are one of the most popular, but also the most expensive. You can also use metal, plastic, or stone platform feeders. If you want to save money, go to a Family Dollar Store and you can get a platform feeder for only $10.00. That is what I use (I’ve had this feeder for two years) and I’ve attracted many wildbirds to my feeder. I had to place some small bricks on the bottom of the feeder to make it sturdy. It has plenty of room for the wildbirds to perch. They enjoy it a great deal year-round (they will come to the feeder in the winter when it’s cold). I put either black-oil sunflower seeds or a wildbird seed mix in the feeder.

You can use a suet feeder to feed nuthatches and woodpeckers. A suet feeder is a plastic-coated wire basket that the suet cake sits in. They usually hang from trees. Some suet feeders are recyclable. In the summer, it’s a good idea to keep the suet feeder in the shade so the wildbirds can stay cool. I like the wire cage design because all wildbirds that enjoy suet can easily eat from it. There are also log suet feeders, but not all wildbirds are able to cling to a log. Remember to clean your suet feeders often.

Tube feeders are for the hummingbirds. Choose red because hummingbirds are attracted to the color red. You can buy either plastic, metal, or glass. I’d advise the plastic feeders because they hold up longer. If you want to attract many hummingbirds, have several feeder ports. Make sure it’s easy to clean and fill. A nectar and sugar mixture will attract hummingbirds to your feeder. Once again, placing the feeder in the shade is a good idea. Not only will this keep the hummingbirds cool, but it helps keep the food fresher longer. Clean your feeder two to three times a week.

Hope this information has helped you out. Happy wildbird feeding and watching!

Do you know what type of bird it is? I work at a wild bird rehab center and we feed depending on the species. There is a baby bird mix that you can feed that is sold at pet stores. If you don’t want to keep it though you can look up your city’s wild bird rehab center and they should be able to take him for you. good luck!!If you post what type of bird it is, I can tell you what to feed it, sometimes it can be tricky to feed because birds can choke if the food does not get into the crop correctly.

Sunflower seeds, alfalfa cubes, alfalfa hay, Cheerios. Slices of apple, carrot, banana, spinach. I would definately not to lettus as it is mostly water and can easily give them diarrea… which in this sort of weather would make them lose body heat.

well for one thing you don’t know how hurt he is and what kind of help he needs and its hard to tell without an examination which has to be done by an expert.don’t touch him because you can get hurt and he can get hurt if you touch him in the wrong place.you can drop him off at a vet or you can continue feeding him and let nature take its course maybe he will feel better.and why don’t you try calling a emergency vet maybe they will take him
